Information Meetings for International Students September 1, 2010

1) How to Volunteer

DATE: Monday, October 4th

TIME: 12:30PM to 1:30PM


DESCRIPTION: Are you interested in volunteering, but you are not sure how to do it? Volunteering is a great way to give back to the community, learn new skills and meet new people. In this information session Global Volunteer Club advisor, Stacey Cantave, will discuss all you need to know about volunteering and how to find great volunteer opportunities.

2) Working on Campus

DATE: Monday, October 18th, 2010

TIME: 12:30PM to 1:30PM


DESCRIPTION: Come learn more about working on campus. In this meeting, we will talk about:

  • Information about on campus jobs
  • Rules for working on campus, including eligibility for employment and how many hours per week you can work.
  • How to get a Social Security number (SSN) after you receive a job offer.

3) Optional Practical Training (OPT) Information Session

DATE: Monday, October 25th

TIME: 12:30PM to 1:30PM


DESCRIPTION: Are you planning on applying for Optional Practical Training (OPT) work authorization, to gain one year of work experience in your field after completing your degree? This information session is an opportunity to learn more about the application process, deadlines and rules for OPT, including when and where you can work, applying for a Social Security number, traveling while on OPT, and more.
